The IELTS syllabus differs between the Academic and General Training.

Reading: Academic includes complex texts from books and journals, while General Training features practical texts from advertisements.
Writing: Academic requires describing data from graphs or charts and an essay. General Training involves writing a letter and an essay on everyday topics.

Listening and Speaking sections are identical for both versions.
